President-Elect Obama on EFCA

President-Elect Obama recently discussed the Employee Free Choice Act with the Washington Post editorial board. The audio is here, and the relevant portion starts at the 56-minute mark.

Former Board Member Peter Kirsanow also spoke about the bill on January 17 with the host of America's Business, a production of the National Association of Manufacturers. A link to the audio is here, and Kirsanow's interview starts around 21:30.

Very interesting happenings in the Obama administration. I really wonder what happens with advisors behind closed doors. Mr. Obama said mentioned business opposing the act because "it's bad for the economy" as a weak argument, but I am convinced there is a reason most businesses vehemently oppose the EFCA. Check out http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/laborprof_blog/. I also recencly did some research showing union employees make on average 28% higher wages than their non-union counterparts. (http://www.epi.org/publications/entry/briefingpapers_bp143/) but the boost in productivity (if any) does not outweigh the increased costs (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1153/is_v108/ai_3579390). How can that be good for the economy?

Great article. More people need to understand the labor laws and the policies that effect them. I for one was clueless until I conducted my own research about the Labor Laws in Texas . I found out so much information and it really enlightened me on the rights as an employee I am entitled to!
